Youth Staff

TRU QY Youth Leaders are dynamic young people. Download the Youth Leader Application if you are interested or drop us a note below to learn more.  Many youth started with little or no experience in teen tobacco prevention or advocacy, but through on-the-job training, they were able to make huge differences in the state of North Carolina.

To be part of our staff you must be a:

  • Student in the 9th to 12th grade*
  • Non-tobacco user (i.e. spit, cigarette, blacks) *
  • Great communicator **
  • Willing learner
  • Creative mind
  • Team player
  • Strong presenter **

*These qualities are not negotiable.

**If you don’t have this quality mastered yet but know that you would be willing to learn these skills, then don’t hesitate to apply for a job opening when they are available.

We believe the work that our youth do is worth a lot, so we do pay our youth.  After all, TRU QY Youth Leaders do the following:

  • Create activities that teach young people about the dangers of tobacco-use, media, and how to advocate for smoke-free hangouts.
  • Present to youth and travel around the state.
  • Find new and interesting information about tobacco that is useful from a youth perspective.
  • Assist Question Why in making materials and training guides that youth will love!

Depending on where you live, that determines where you send the application. Check out the Contact Us page and click on the map. That will then tell you what staff to contact.

Question Why is a great opportunity for teenagers to get the skills to impact their community and change their lives. Question Why was one of the best jobs I ever had!
