Meet the Adult Staff

The staff at Question Why is dedicated to youth empowerment and combined have over 30 years of experience working with youth.  Read below to learn about them individually. To contact us click here.

Asia Barnett was born in Southern California and lived there for 15 yrs. After living on the west coast, she moved to the east coast living in places such as Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and now North Carolina. Asia is a Program Coordinator for Question Why in Charlotte, NC. Asia has done a year a service with AmeriCorps as a Fitness and Wellness Coordinator at a Community Center working with youth in poverty. She has also worked as a Circuit trainer at a fitness center and at a charter school as a P.E. teacher for an after school program. Asia enjoys working out, watching and playing sports, and listening to music.

Steve Johnson is native to eastern North Carolina where he was taught to love God, family, and country.  He attributes all the success he has had as an investor, motivational speaker, entertainer, and health educator to his faith in God.  Steve is definitely a fitness buff and as you would guess loves to read the Bible and pray.

Christine Laucher grew up watching sunsets over the lake in Northern Michigan and now loves the mountain sunsets afforded by North Carolina’s Western Region, where she is the Director for Question Why West.  In her off-time, Christine’s favorite things include playing ultimate Frisbee, reading, and taking advantage of the nearby hiking trails with her husband and two dogs.

Summer Griffin, although born in the Midwest, has grown up enjoying the beautiful weather and unique Appalachian culture of her father’s heritage in Western North Carolina, . Having graduated high school with four years of experience working with YES! as a youth leader, Summer left Asheville to attend the University of North Carolina Greensboro for her freshmen year of college. She has since moved back to the much missed mountains and taken up her position working with Question Why West. Summer spends as much time as possible enjoying her city and the mountains. She loves hiking, camping, swimming, and taking care of her beautiful doggies.

Terry Quinn is an Eastern North Carolina native who attended East Carolina University for a degree in School and Community Health.  She has worked in tobacco prevention since 2001, two years with the Health Department in Pitt County where she lives and has been with Question Why East since 2003.  She loves spending time at the beach, playing with her daughters and reading.

Monica Rohena grew up in upstate New York and graduated from Hofstra University in 1990.  She is fluent in Spanish and French, and taught Spanish for two years.  She worked previously as a HWTF grantee in New Hanover county doing tobacco prevention with the Latino youth group, No Fumo.  In her free time, Monica loves to spend time with her two kids, go dancing, running, spinning and weight training.

Mark Strazzer grew up in Delaware before his migration to Asheville, NC. Mark is the Program Coordinator for Question Why West. Mark has done volunteer work in Ghana, India, and New Zealand. Mark has been a middle school health and physical education teacher, an international tour guide, and a personal trainer. Mark enjoys traveling, ultimate frisbee, bicycle commuting, and all forms of exercise.

Karen Yarbrough is originally from the small mountain town of  Sparta, North Carolina and moved to the beach to attend UNC-Wilmington.  She graduated with a degree and teaching license in Physical Education and has just completed her Masters in School Health Education from East Carolina University.  Karen found her way to ?Y after working in the public school system for nearly two years. In her free time, Karen enjoys cooking, reading, volleyball, and playing with her dog Terra.

Question Why is an outstanding program. It is wonderful to know there are teens who care enough to stand apart from the crowd and dare to make a difference in the lives of others. Your website is very impressive. Keep up the good work!
